Description

BREED INFORMATION

Creator: =TsonianFieldsRanch
Body Type: Draft / baroque
Features: Curled ears, feathering

Ikkarian Hill Horses were bred as mounts for Ikkarian gypsies to carry them over the hilly and uneven terrain. Because of this, they are very sure footed, making them smooth movers. They can easily be trained for dressage and other events. They generally are seen with two different body types: standard and sport. The standard body type is heavier while still maintaining distinct Spanish blood appearances, with Friesian and Gypsy Vanner influences being most prominent. The sport type is of a slightly lighter build but still is recognizably within the breed. The sport type often has a similar body type to that of the Andalusian.

The breed also features curly ears, as well as a curly or textured mane and tail. There are no height restrictions, and due to the draft influence, they can grow to be fairly tall, but the smallest seen is generally around 15.0 hands. The standard build frequently has moderate to heavy feathering on their legs, while the sport type typically has minimal to none. Both builds have a high tail carriage, and overall, they can appear to be a very classy and flashy breed.

COLORS AND MUTATIONS

Colors: Any; Black, bay, roan, silver most common
Markings: Any; Tobiano, sabino, most common
Mutations: Can occur

Any color can be seen in the Ikkarian Hill Horse, but black and bay are the most common base colors, with roans and silvers also occurring frequently in the gene pool. Tobiano and sabino are also seen in many horses. Cream and dominant white are rarer in the gene pool, along with splash white and appaloosa markings, but they can occur.

There are multiple mutations in the breed, some of which are fairly natural based while others are more along the lines of fantasy markings. Mutations pass like realistic genetics, meaning that a heterozygous mutation can pass a copy of the gene onto its offspring. While there aren't currently very many mutations currently available or registered, there should be more in the future.

SALES

Open sales: Note #TFR-Studbook for designs

The Ikkarian Hill Horse isn't an open breed, but you can note #TFR-Studbook to purchase any naturally colored horse. Mutations are not open to request, but there are imports available every now and then that will be available to people.

FINAL NOTES

Ikkarian Hill Horses are an easily accessible breed for anyone who's interested in them. They aren't expensive, and they come in a large variety of colors. They have a very classic build and would make an easy fit into anyone's stable.
